Carriers & Solubilizers

Captex®

Medium chain esters can be used in the manufacture of topical aerosols, foams, creams, ointments and lotions as viscosity modifiers. The esters are almost odor-free, low in color and bland in flavor. Their viscosity at room temperature is less than those of common vegetable oils such as cottonseed and soybean. Caprylic and capric mono-diglyceride esters function as very effective carriers and solubilizers of active compounds. Mono-diglyceride medium chain esters are particularly recommended for the dissolution of difficult compounds such as sterols and have also exhibited bacteriostatic activity.

Capmul®

Capmul products are mono-and diglyceride emulsifiers prepared through the glycerolysis of select fats and oils. They can be prepared by esterification of glycerin with specific fatty acids. They are lipophilic, insoluble in water and soluble in oils at elevated temperatures. They are used to produce stable emulsions and to modify viscosity. The Capmul MCM series posses excellent solvent properties.

Caprol®

Caprol® polyglycerol esters (PGE’s) are generally prepared by esterification of select polyglycerol molecules with fatty acids or by alcoholysis of a vegetable oil with a polyglycerol. Their range in HLB make them suitable for both w/o and o/w systems. PGE molecular weights vary from low to high and their form at room temperature ranges from a viscous liquid to a solid. PGE’s are useful as solubilizers, clouding agents, crystallization inhibitors and suspending agents.
