High purity mono-glycerides are the new age in “non-toxic” preservation . ABITEC proposes three food-grade ingredients for use in personal care products as emollient esters with antimicrobial properties. These are:
- Capmul 907P (Propylene Glycol Heptanoate)
- Capmul 908P (Propylene Glycol Caprylate)
- Capmul 708G (Glyceryl Caprylate)
At usage levels of 0.5 to 1.0% in emulsion-type formulations, these non-toxic ingredients offer preservation against a wide range of microbes, including molds and yeasts. The products are also available in their non-distilled form but usage levels have to be adjusted accordingly. These esters are only suitable for use in neutral pH formulations.
