Capmul products are mono-, di- and triglyceride emulsifiers prepared through the glycerolysis of select fats and oils. They can be prepared by esterification of glycerin with specific fatty acids. They are lipophilic, insoluble in water and soluble in oils at elevated temperatures. They are used to produce stable emulsions and to modify viscosity.
Caprylic and capric mono-diglyceride esters function as very effective carriers and solubilizers of active compounds. Mono-diglyceride medium chain esters are particularly recommended for the dissolution of difficult compounds such as sterols and have also exhibited bacteriostatic activity.
