Caprol polyglycerol esters (PGE’s) are generally prepared by esterification of select polyglycerol molecules with fatty acids or by alcoholysis of a vegetable oil with a polyglycerol. Their range in HLB makes them suitable for both w/o and o/w systems. PGE molecular weights vary from low to high and their form at room temperature range from a viscous liquid to a brittle solid. PGE’s are useful as solubilizers, clouding agents, crystallization inhibitors, lip glossers and suspending agents. Caprol esters offer an elegant skin after feel and light, non-greasy refatting properties.
