ABITEC ANNOUNCES TWO LIPID ENHANCERS FOR DRUG DELIVERY

07/13/2015

Columbus, OH – July 13, 2015 – ABITEC Corporation launches two functional lipid excipients that will dramatically enhance transdermal drug delivery systems.

ABITEC’s R&D delivers two transformative lipid excipients that will make a dramatic contribution to the bioavailability of transdermal drug therapies. Created to aid absorption in topical applications, these lipid excipients will make a valuable impact for commercial customers and their end users.

Rick Kettinger, Global Business Unit Director – Pharmaceuticals – Human & Veterinary of ABITEC said, “We are very excited about the addition of these lipid excipients to our growing topical and transdermal portfolio. We strive to increase our customer’s formulating options, with high-quality products and superior technical expertise.”

Technical highlights include:

Capmul® PG-8-70 NF and Captex® 170 EP

Capmul PG-8-70 NF is propylene glycol mono and diesters of caprylic acid and conforms to the USP NF monograph for Propylene Glycol Monocaprylate, type I. This product complements the existing ABITEC product, Capmul PG-8 NF, which conforms to the USP NF Monograph for Propylene Glycol Monocaprylate, type II.

Captex 170 EP is an ester prepared from the dehydration of coco fatty alcohols with caprylic and capric acids. Captex 170 EP is an excellent dispersant for APIs, sunblock, and pigments; making it highly functional in topical applications.

These products function in emulsion based systems to enhance an API’s bioavailability, acting as penetration enhancers in transdermal drug delivery systems. In addition, Capmul PG-8-70 NF may function as a carrier in soft and hard gelatin capsules.
