Business Development Manager, Pharmaceutical

Scope

This role will be responsible to support the development of a more assertive presence for ABITEC in the pharmaceutical and drug delivery markets. This position will focus primarily on the implementation and commercialization of ABITEC’s functional lipid excipient products into the North American pharmaceutical market sector. In addition, the Business Development Manager-Pharmaceuticals will also help support the overall global pharmaceutical initiatives to help drive the future commercial growth across the Pharmaceutical business unit.

This individual will undertake a dual technical and commercial role for the organization. The Business Development Manager-Pharmaceuticals is expected to spend approximately 50% of their time in the field providing technical presentations, working closely with existing and new pharmaceutical and drug delivery commercial accounts and creating new business and scientific opportunities. In addition, this individual will have commercial obligations which include management of key pharmaceutical accounts, meeting sales objectives and contract development and negotiation responsibilities.

This advanced degreed individual will be scientifically and technically skilled in the fields of chemistry/biochemistry, lipid excipient systems and solid-oral dosage formulations. The Business Development Manager-Pharmaceuticals will be directly responsible for the identification of new applications for existing products and supporting the internal development of profitable differentiated new products for advanced drug delivery applications. As appropriate, this individual will be responsible for supporting the development of science-driven marketing materials across both the pharmaceutical and nutraceutical initiatives.

Key Responsibilites

  • Support ABITEC’s global pharmaceutical initiatives. Provide specific and dedicated focus on developing and implementing strategic-driven initiatives, commercial projects and customer collaborations.
  • Interface across ABITEC’s departments, particularly Sales Service, Operations and Regulatory
  • Provide a positive and determined approach to science, sales and new business opportunities
  • Execution of the pharmaceutical strategic business plan into a business development strategy that meets and exceeds the Pharmaceutical Business Unit budget year over year
  • Defining key parameters for successful collaboration/projects
  • Gathering of regional, national and international market intelligence including customer approvals, industry trends and regulatory-driven initiatives
  • Direct and oversee customer product approvals, contract quotations, secrecy agreements and customer demand forecasts
  • Attend scientific conferences and relevant trade shows to present technical presentations and/or workshops as appropriate
  • Support new product development efforts
  • Provide support, as appropriate, to the Nutritional Sciences business unit

Skills & Competencies

  • Extensive hands-on laboratory experience in area of drug formulation and drug delivery applications
  • Strong scientific and technical foundation in lipid chemistry
  • Self-started with ability to work independently

  • Ability to write technically and to critically review scientific documents
  • Ability to conceive and draft complex commercial sales agreements and to interact and negotiate effectively with business counterparts and associated legal teams

  • Experience in the establishment and management of academic and industrial partnerships

Qualifications

  • Master of Science required- but Ph.D. preferred- in relative science discipline (pharmacology, chemistry, biochemistry and/or pharmaceutical sciences)
  • Minimum of 5 years’ commercial experience working in relevant pharmaceutical sector(s) managing key accounts, direct reports, budgets and cross-disciplinary commercial sales teams
  • In-depth experience working and managing multi-national employees and customers
  • In-depth knowledge of the drug development process (bench-top through market authorization phases)
  • Experience with, and understanding of, various Regulatory agencies including USFDA, EMA, ICH, WHO and ANVISA
  • Ability to effectively communicate in both one-on-one discussions, business and technical seminars
